Pastor Saeed Abedini's attorney protested against the ambiguous situation of his client and called on Iranian judicial authorities to clear things up. Meanwhile, the pastor's wife believes this delay in the appeals court is a good sign regarding her husband's case.

Naser Sarbazi, Saeed Abedini's attorney, also said he is hopeful that the Iranian authorities will soon clear up the situation in an appeals court.

According to Mohabat News, in an interview with ISNA, Pastor Saeed Abedini's attorney expressed his protest against confusion surrounding his client's case and the lack of a clear decision from the appeals court, but also said that he is hopeful that Iranian judicial authorities will clear the uncertain situation of the pastor as early as possible.

Mr. Naser Sarbazi said, "The courts should handle cases of those who are in prison out of turn, but no decision has been made in this regard."

Naghmeh Abedini, Pastor Abedini's wife, said in an interview with Mohabat News that this delay in the appeals court decision is a good sign. Considering that Pastor Abedini has already spent one year of his eight year sentence in prison, Mrs. Abedini expressed hope that the appeals court will review all documents in a just manner and release her husband soon.

Pastor Abedini was arrested during a trip to Iran to visit his family and continue efforts to establish an orphanage in Iran. He was later sentenced to eight years in prison in branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court chaired by Judge Pir-Abassi. Pastor Abedini's attorney filed an appeal and the case was transferred to branch 36 of the appeal courts in Tehran. It has not been processed any further and he has not even been granted bail. Like other Christian prisoners in ward 350 of Evin prison, Pastor Abedini has never received a leave permit during his time in prison.

Iranian judicial authorities promised Pastor Abedini's family several times that they will temporarily release him on bail, but have not fulfilled their promises.

The initial trial of Pastor Saeed Abedini was held on January 22, 2013, behind closed doors.

After the Iranian-American pastor was sentenced to eight years in prison, Victoria Nuland, then spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, and Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary, expressed the U.S. government's deep concerns over Pastor Abedini and promised to make every effort to secure his freedom. They also called on Iran to honor Pastor Abedini's Human Rights and release him from prison.

It is worth mentioning that Pastor Abedini is suffering from a scar on his abdomen which needed medical care for a period of time. According to received reports, he had been transferred to a private hospital on July 20. After being examined in hospital, doctors said that he needed continuous medical care to treat the scars caused by beatings.

Pastor Abedini who also celebrated his 34th birthday in prison, had been arrested for establishing house churches and therefore "disrupting Iranian national security" and has been held in ward 350 of Evin prison since September 26, 2012.

In the past few years, Human Rights advocacy groups and western governments have continuously warned against and expressed their concerns over the violation of religious minorities' rights in Iran.
